Damoh is a city in the Sagar Division in north-eastern Madhya Pradesh in India. The city is located 250 kilometres (155 mi) east of the state capital, Bhopal. It is the administrative headquarters of Damoh District. It has a total population of 1,39,561. The highest employment in the district is in Agro based, FMCG, Textile, Jute, Wood, Leather, Chemical and Rubber industries. District Damoh is one of the districts of the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh. The district derives its name from the headquarter town of Damoh. The town Damoh is believed to have been named after Damayanti the founder and the queen of Raja Nala of Narwar . The stone inscription of 15th century at Chandi Chopra (about 32.2 KM south east of Damoh) refers to a town, namely Damanakpur. The term Damoh means a cluster of dwellings. The early history of administration in the district is linked with Singorgarh, Bilhari, Nohata and Batihadim (Batiagarh).

The district is the basic territorial unit of administration in the state as well as in India. The total number of villages in the district are 1210, out of which 1176 villages are inhabited and 34 villages are un-inhabited. Tahsilwise number of villages are Hatta(158), Patera(159), Batiyagarh(150), Patharia(131), Damoh(238), Jabera(190) and Tendukheda(184). Number of Gram Panchayats are 461. Damoh is located in the revenue division of Sagar, among rising hills and following rivers, in the central part of Madhya Pradesh and is accessible through rail. It lies on Bina –Katni railway line of western-central Railway.
