Sasaram is the 129th largest Hindi speaking city of India with a total population of 1,47,408. Sasaram is a city in the Rohtas district of Bihar and the highest employment in Rohtas district is in Agriculture, Minerals, Wooden furniture, Readymade Garments and other household industries. The district has 67% of the workforce employed in the Agricultural Sector, 27% in the Industrial Sector and the remaining 6% are Household workers. The major field crops are Rice, Wheat, Maize, Mustard, Pigeon Pea, Pulses, Oilseeds. Apart from these, horticultural crops like Mango, Guava, Banana, Lemon, Potato, Onion, Tomato etc. are also produced. Sasaram was originally named Shah Serai (meaning Place of King) as it is the birthplace of the Afghan king Sher Shah Suri, who ruled over Delhi, much of northern India, what is now Pakistan, and eastern Afghanistan for five years, after defeating the Mughal Emperor Humayun. The fort of Sher Shah Suri at Rohtasgarh is in Sasaram.
