Sambhal has a total population of 2,20,813 and ranks 81st in terms of Hindi speakers. Sambhal is a new district which is carved out from the Moradabad district. Major employment here is in Agriculture, handicrafts and in Sugar industry. Out of the entire workforce, 50% are employed in agriculture, 43% are working in above mentioned industry segment and 7% are Household workers. Sambhal is a good agricultural belt because of the soil system of the district. Sambhal was a prominent town during the medieval period. Babur also visited Sambhal. He built a mosque here.
