Pithampur is the 149th largest Hindi speaking city in India with a total population of 1,26,200. Pithampur is a city in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh and the highest employment in the district is in Agriculture, Chemical, Rubber/Plastic, Engineering and other household industries. The district has 80% of the workforce employed in the Agricultural Sector, 18% in the Industrial Sector and the remaining 2% are Household workers. The major crops produced in the district are Cotton, Soybean, Wheat, Maize and Chickpea. Apart from these, other horticultural crops like Mango, Guava, Orange, Banana, Potato, Onion, Tomato, Chillies etc. are also produced. The Vindhya Range runs east and west through the district. The northern part of the district lies on the Malwa plateau. The northwestern portion of the district lies in the watershed of the Mahi River and its tributaries, while the northeastern part of the district lies in the watershed of the Chambal River, which drains into the Ganges via the Yamuna River. The portion of the district south of the ridge of the Vindhyas lies in the watershed of the Narmada River, which forms the southern boundary of the district. Pithampur has an Industrial area.
