Motihari is the 150th largest Hindi speaking city in India with a total population of 1,26,158. Motihari is a city in the East Champaran district of Bihar and the highest employment in the district is in Agriculture, Wooden furniture, Metal and other household industries. The district has 81% of the workforce employed in the Agricultural Sector, 16% in the Industrial Sector and the remaining 3% are Household workers. The major crops produced in the district are Rice, Wheat, Maize, Sugarcane and Pulses. Apart from these, other horticultural crops like Mango, Guava, Litchi, Lemon, Banana etc. are also produced. East Champaran is an administrative district in the state of Bihar in India. The district headquarters are located at Motihari. In early days the land of East Champaran was ruled by different kingdoms as Videha, Sunga, Kanvas. But it was the “Champaran Satyagrah” which gave a worldwide recognition to this place. Two eminent personalities related to Motihari are Mahatma Gandhi and George Orwell. One was well renowned for his pretty lethal weapon “AHINSA” (Non-Violence) whereas other used his pen against social injustice and totalitarianism.
