Modinagar is the 143rd largest Hindi speaking city of India with a total population of 1,30,325. Modinagar falls under district Ghaziabad and the highest employment in Ghaziabad district is in the sectors of Food and beverage, Automobile, Electronics and Metal Industry. 19% of the workforce is employed in the Agricultural Sector, 76% in the Industrial Sector and the remaining 5% are Household workers. Ghaziabad district is not a big agricultural district today largely because of increased industrialization over the years still the district has very fertile flat land with an abundance of good quality groundwater. Modinagar is a city and a municipal board in Ghaziabad district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It was founded in 1933 by Rai Bahadur Gujar Mal Modi, who established the Modi Group of Industries here along with his brother, Kedar Nath Modi. Prior to its renaming in 1945, Modinagar was known as Begumabad. Gujarmal Modi sowed the seeds of development and progress for the town, which was earlier blighted by underdevelopment and lawlessness. Gujarmal Modi not only ensured that Modinagar first developed and then thrived as an industrial hub, but he also made sure that the inhabitants of the town received ancillary benefits. Numerous social initiatives in education, public health and welfare were initiated in the town of Modinagar.
