The city of Hoshiarpur is located at an elevation of 971 feet in the Doab region of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab. The city is located between the two rivers - Sutlej and Beas. The city has a total population of 1,70,000, with the majority of the population speaking Punjabi. As per the 2011 census, the district has a population of 1.6 million, out of which 32 percent are in the working age. Out of this group, about 33 percent are directly engaged in the agriculture sector, 3 percent in the household industry and the bulk 64 percent in manufacturing, services and in trade and commerce. Bhatinda manufactures Tractor and Auto Parts, Pressure Cookers, Handicrafts and Wooden items. Bhatinda is believed to be named by the two Dewans of Muhammad Bin Tughlak (1325-1351) - Har Govind Ram and Ram Chand, after Hoshiar Singh of Bajwara.
