Hazaribag (also spelled Hazaribagh) is a city and a municipality in Hazaribagh district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. It is the divisional headquarters of North Chotanagpur division. It is famous as a health resort and for Hazaribag Wildlife Sanctuary (17 km from city).

The districts of Kodarma (formed on 10.04.1994), Chatra (formed in June 1991) and Giridih (on 6.12.1972) have been bifurcated from this district.

This district consists of two sub-divisions, namely, Hazaribag Sadar and Barhi. There are 16 C.D. Blocks and 15 Revenue Anchals and 17 towns (Statutory towns -1 & Census towns -16). There are 1308 villages in the district and 257 are Gram Panchayats in this district. The physiographic characteristics of the district are rich. It has waterfalls, hills, and land with avalanches. Hazaribagh is surrounded by green forest.
