Hapur has a total population of 2,62,983 and ranks 64th in terms of Hindi speakers. Hapur, formed in 2011, is a newly formed district of Uttar Pradesh. Before this, it was a part of Ghaziabad. Highest employment in Hapur is in the Wood Industry, Food industry, Sugar mill, and in Agriculture sector. Out of the total working population, Ghaziabad district has 76% of the workforce in Industrial jobs, 19% in Agriculture and the remaining 5% as Household workers. Hapur is a good agricultural belt because Hapur district is part of the Indus-Gangetic Plain, the soil is composed of Pleistocene and more recent alluvial sediments are brought by rivers from the Himalayan region. These alluvial deposits are unconsolidated and make a very fertile land. Main crops are especially wheat, sugarcane, potato and other vegetables. Ganga and Kali River are the major rivers of the district. The name of District Hapur came from Haripur which has a mythological connection. Garhmukteshvara is the major religious center of Hapur. Hapur later came under the rule of British Empire. Railway Bridge on the river Ganga is the major engineering achievement of British era.
