Biharsharif is the 50th largest Hindi speaking city of India with the total population of 3 lakh. Biharsharif comes under Nalanda district of Bihar. Major employment in Nalanda district is in Agriculture, Tourism and in Government industry. Nalanda district has 73% Agriculture workers, 22% Industry and other workers and 5% Household workers. Nalanda is a good agricultural belt because of the availability of water. Phalgu and Mohane are the major rivers of district. The farmers mainly grow paddy and apart from it they also grow potato, and onion. The history of Biharsharif goes back to the time of Mauryan Empire, later it comes under Gupta Empire and after the fall of Gupta Empire it came under the Pala Empire. During the period of Pala it flourished and became the hub of education. Nalanda and Odantapuri Universities are the best examples of it. After the rise of Delhi sultanate, Biharsharif became a part of it. It was later ruled by Mughals and after them by the British Empire. Magahi is another major language of Biharsharif.
